A Bigger Splash

When a lifeguard surprises him with a moonlit date at the pool, a boy who never learned how to swim does everything he can to avoid making a splash. A Bigger Splash is an original musical short concept that combines worlds of Hollywood’s golden age with Australia’s glitter cycle (Priscilla, Muriel’s Wedding, and Strictly Ballroom). Musicals and gay people have had a long relationship. In a time where representing queer stories was taboo it became necessary to write ourselves into the stories of other people – encoding it in subtext, innuendo and ambiguity – or projecting into tales about worlds where love could be expressed at the top of your lungs. With A Bigger Splash, we want to create a musical where queer romance can finally be depicted explicitly on screen.
